Adult Crap is the first track from New Tokyo Terror's 2009 album The Adult Storybook. It is a jazz ballad, composed and sung by Joanna Wang with her father Bing Wang's participation as co-producer.
The song is in A minor, 4/4 metre and starts off with Brian MacLeod's drums part around which much of the song is based, with Roger Joseph Manning Jr. and Paul Bushnell providing a combined piano and bass backing. Joanna Wang employed several jazz chords in the song, and after the final section of her vocals, it was consummated by a fast synthesizer solo played on a Roland keyboard, ending in a high note. In live performances this closing part is often superseded by a similar guitar solo.
The lyrics of the song mainly describe the feelings of dejection and confusion one experiences during midlife crisis. Joanna Wang has stated on different occasions that it is her favourite in The Adult Storybook and also an ideal song as the opening track[1].
